Dr June Armstrong

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of one of our previous and much loved partners Dr June Armstrong.  Dr June was a prominent member of this practice when she, with Dr Bruce Armstrong,  set up a surgery at 3 Enmore Road, their former family home.  She was influential in the development of the first Woodside Health Centre and subsequently Portland Medical Centre at 184 Portland Road.   As the plaque in the foyer notes, she performed the official opening of Portland Medical Centre in March 1995.

Dr June was among the first GPs in Croydon to become a GP Trainer and has mentored many of South London’s past and current GPs.  Together with Dr Bruce she was instrumental in the development of the first out of hours GP service in Croydon, transforming the working lives of GPs at that time.  She was a keen sportswoman, competitively playing tennis and golf and in her younger days competing regionally in throwing the Javelin.

We know many of our patients will remember Dr June with fondness as do all of us who worked with her.   Our thoughts and best wishes are with her family at this time.

We will do our best to uphold her legacy and continue to serve the health needs of our community.
