ABSOLUTE EMERGENCY
AND MAJOR INJURY
In case of absolute emergency/major
injury go straight to your nearest Accident and Emergency department. If an ambulance
is needed dial 999.
The nearest A&E is at Croydon University Hospital, London Road, Thornton Heath. Telephone 020 8401
3000.
You can attend a casualty department
within 24 hours of an accident or injury without informing your doctor and without
a referral letter from your GP.
MINOR
INJURIES
NHS Croydon provides a minor injuries service at Parkway Health Centre, New Addington
for emergencies between 2.00 and 10.00pm Monday to Friday, and 12 noon to 10.00pm
Saturday and Sunday. The unit is staffed by experienced emergency nurse practitioners
who have spent several years in Accident and Emergency and have undertaken specific
training.
They will treat adults and children
with the following conditions: minor cuts and grazes, minor burns and scalds,
stings, sprains and strains. They can also clean and dress wounds,
insert and remove sutures, remove foreign bodies from eyes and dispense specified
medication including tetanus. At the Parkway you will not have to
queue behind seriously ill or injured patients, so you may be treated more quickly
than if you were to attend Accident and Emergency.
